The Startsocial Competition is under the patronage of the Chancellor and has the goal of strengthening voluntary commitment in Germany.

This year, Chancellor Merkel, as patron, honored the winners in a separate video message: "Board games are much more than just a pastime," the Chancellor emphasized in the video message. "A wonderful initiative ties in with the fact that playing together also strengthens cohesion.
